2002 Season Ends...

Well the season is over. The snow will soon cover our bike tracks in the fallen leaves. Wasn’t it a very fine year for BWAH? We revisited and enjoyed one another. We met some special children, and we delighted both them and ourselves in the sharing and contact we experienced. We had a year of some sorrow and much joy. Now we can look back with pleasure at the season we experienced and ahead to spring and a new season.

Eean’s Ride

Eean, our child for October is an interesting young man. For one thing right off the bat he was so enthusiastic about the police car that he didn’t want a biker to take him on the parade ride. He wanted to ride in the police car, and thanks to Lt. Gary Fecteau, he not only got the ride he got some blue lights and heard the siren. Thank you, Gary. Eean’s enthusiastic response and huge smile gave us all a lift.

With Special Interests

It seems that Eean has a consuming interest in cars. For one thing he loves car washes. He would prefer to go through the car wash rather than ride on a roller coaster. His brother, Dan told me that fire trucks, ambulances any sort of motorized vehicle really interests him. But in addition Eean has a unique talent. Dan Sr, his dad, told me that Eean can identify the make of any car no matter how old. He instinctively knows when he sees a car what kind it is. I found that amazing. When he drove up to the Washington Fire House (in the police car) he knew the fire truck was a Ford before he could see the brand name on the front of truck. It certainly impressed me.

A Difficult Year

It has been a difficult and painful year for Eean and his family. His father lost his business in a fire. His mother was very ill and passed away in August. I saw strength and commitment in that family and it was a pleasure to meet them. I am glad that we were able to add something pleasant and positive in a difficult time for them.

The October Bash

Our last ride for 2002 was a damp one but it was a successful windup to the BWAH season. A most grateful thank you to the firemen of the Washington Hose Co, Kennebunk Lower Village for once again hosting BWAH and friends at the annual season ending BASH. As usual it was well attended with lots of good things to eat and drink.

The highlights of the event were the presence of many alumni from past rides for cheer, and arguably the Chili which rumor has it was prepared by a renowned local chef who did not wish to be identified. We send a special Thank You to everyone who participated. It could not, would not, happen without the commitment of so many of you. See you in the spring.

Think of the kids!
