Hello BWAH folks!
Well, can you believe it? Winter is behind us and spring is here! That also heralds the beginning of the BWAH season. I hope everyone made it through wintertime hybernation OK. The bikes are now coming out and its time to plan on visiting a group of kids with joyous "Rides For Cheer". For those of you that have been there from the beginning, can you believe that BWAH is celebrating it's 12th anniversary this year! Wow!
For the 6th year in a row, the organizers of the Kennebunk May Day festivities have asked BWAH to participate in the May Day parade set for Saturday, May 5th. It would be great to lauch the BWAH season with a good turnout of BWAH riders participating, (actually, leading with the children carrying the BWAH banner), in the parade. The first "Ride For Cheer" will be held the following weekend, the 13th (Mother's Day), meeting at the usual location in Kennebunk at 3:00PM (see http://www.bikerheart.org/events.html).
If you, (and a friend), would like to join the BWAH riders in participating in the parade on the 5th, please plan on coming to the intersection of Water St. and Maine St. in Kennebunk around 1:30PM on Saturday, May 5th. If you need directions or a map, e-mail me and I can provide some details. Also, if you plan on coming, please e-mail me ASAP, as I am taking a rough head-count.
Participating in the May Day parade is a great way to launch the BWAH season, and spotlights the kids and our organization favorably. It's also a lot of fun!
Also, as part of the day-long May Day festivities, there will be a "Fun Run" in the morning, (see brochure: PDF Brochure ) The organizers have traditionally used BWAH volunteers for traffic control at key intersections. I'm in need of a handful of hearty volunteers. We're meeting at the Kennebunk Dunkin' Donuts of Saturday, 5/5, at 8:00AM. I'm treating for coffee and breakfast food. thereafter, we'll be going into town and take our "stations". The run is low key, and is usually over by 10:00AM. The organizers REALLY APPRECIATE our participation and assistance, and it gives us some "positive visibility". If you think you'd like to volunteer for this, please e-mail me ASAP, as I'm assembling a team. On behalf of the "kids", thanks!
Tell a friend. Spread the word. Ride safe. And remember.. THINK OF THE KIDS!
