First Ride of 2003...On Sunday, May 11th, Bikers With a Heart kicked off the 2003 season with a Ride for Cheer for five year old Jacob Gould of Kennebunk. The ride was well attended with 27 motorcycles and 40 riders. Emerging from a long, cold winter, the gathering allowed for old friends to reconnect. Leaving from Coastal Decorating, the group rumbled down Route 35 to the Lower Village of Kennebunk where Jacob and his family were waiting. A clear motorcycle enthusiast, Jacob met the riders on the police motorcycle, pictured below, he received for Christmas. Jacob's Day While we were without our magician, the event proceeded nicely with the presentation of the gift bag by BWAH rider, Denise Kearns, a.k.a. Mrs. Rock and the reading of the Proclamation by BWAH rider, Ed Brozek. Gregg Kearns, a.k.a. Mr. Rock also gave little Jacob a Harley Davidson bandana which he wore with great sartorial aplomb. The parade ride which featured Jacob and his Dad in a sidecar and one of his siblings as passenger on another bike winded its way back up Route 35 and onto Old Port Road then back down to the Gould's home. When contacted for her impression of the event, Mrs. Gould related the event was "one of the best days." Jacob has been talking about the ride for several days now. The ride was a wonderful success bringing some cheer into the life of a child who is facing some challenges. Jacob and his family should know that their new friends from BWAH will keep them in their thoughts and prayers. BWAH riders please note that the next ride is set for June 8th. We will meet in the parking lot at Coastal Decorating in Kennebunk at 3:00 pm. Until then: Think of the kids! |
