At 3:45 on a hot July 8th, approximately 20 motorcycles gathered in Kennebunk for the second ride of 2006. In addition to various cruisers and sport bikes, three antique sidecars were also present. Lt. Gary Fecteau with his sheriff car was once again a very much-appreciated addition to the group. Today Gary had three children tagging along for the ride. Upon invitation, all three kids decided to ride on motorcycles for the trip to Waterboro where today’s parade ride was to take place. One of Gary’s kids even got to ride in a sidecar becoming the envy of a lot of the bikers.

Today’s route was familiar to many of the BWAH riders. In the past BWAH had driven past today’s recipient on a couple of occasions. Today BWAH was visiting two youngsters in Waterboro. Tyler and Taylor are 11-year-old twin boys who were joined by their Mom, Dad, big sister and brother-in-law. Although four of the boys’ older siblings own and ride motorcycles, neither Taylor nor Tyler had ever been for a motorcycle ride. Their lack of riding experience certainly has not diminished their fascination with motorcycles though.

Even with all the motorcycles around, one of the biggest excitements for the boys was Lt. Gary Fecteau’s sheriff car. Gary gave the boys a tour of his car and showed off the blue lights. Once the tour of the car was done, Gary presented each of the boys with a ‘York County Sheriff’s Office’ patch. This patch quickly became the favorite of the day’s gifts and had to be pinned to a shirt as soon as the bikers had left.

Tyler and Taylor had their choice of motorcycles to ride on for the parade ride. After looking over all the motorcycles, Taylor chose to ride on his sister’s motorcycle while Tyler chose to ride on his brother-in-law’s bike. The boys donned helmets that were provided by BWAH and got ready to ride. Their father even came along for the ride. This was a new experience for their father as he also had never before been on a motorcycle.

The parade ride was a definitely a hit with the boys. They were able to see Gary’s sheriff car with the lights on leading the parade. One positive thing about being a twin is that you always have someone with whom to share your special moments. Today was definitely one of those special moments.

A big thanks to Gary and the York County Sheriff’s Department for once again helping with traffic at the intersection of Rt. 111 and helping to make it another safe ride.

Think of the kids!
