A newsletter for "BIKERS WITH A HEART"

The BWAH "Ride For Cheer" for July was a great success. The weather was wonderful, and the spirit was lively and charged. When I first called the household to share information about BWAH and explore the option of a ride for a boy at home, I learned that there were several siblings with a rare and serious genetic heart condition. So, we decided to do something that was unprecedented in the 10-year history of BWAH: a "Ride For Cheer" for three siblings from Lyman, Tyler (12 y/o), Andrew (11 y/o) and Allison (8 y/o).

The children suffer with a condition that renders the heart prone to dangerous arrhythmias. The condition requires regular medication and great care with regard to physical activity. (One of the siblings has suffered several episodes of cardiac arrest in the past!)

The "Ride For Cheer" went well, although we had to lean heavily on our Road Guards for a safe trip, given that Gary wasn't able to make it with his sheriff's cruiser. We arrived safely in Lyman, greeting the anxious family at nearby Lyman Elementary School, (their home was difficult to access because of a dirt road). The kids were excited to see the BWAH group pull up and greet them.

The BWAH gift bag was presented by Paul and Elaine Kretas, newcomers to BWAH. The "Certificate of Proclamation", (actually, all three), were presented by Brian from Kennebunk, a firefighter who has joined as a rider this year and has helped with the BWAH Bashes in the past.

The parade ride was lots of fun, taking out all three kids who had a great time, waving to each other during the ride.

Thanks to all the volunteers and supporters, especially the riders from up north who were "deputized" as Road Guards for this challenging and rewarding ride. We look forward to seeing you all for the next BWAH "Ride For Cheer!"

Think of the kids!
