A specific day is designated on the BWAH calendar as a particular child's "day". The BWAH group assembles in Kennebunk, and rides to the child's home, or other predetermined location. There, a brief ceremony is held which includes a special proclamation and presentation of a custom embossed certificate with photograph.
The child is presented with a tee-shirt (with the BWAH logo) along with balloons and a "grab bag" containing coupons and gift certificates from participating area businesses. If the parents agree ahead of time, the child is offered a short parade style ride, with the BWAH group through the neighborhood. All of these efforts are designed to make the child feel very special, with the spirit festive and joyful. |

Local physicians, health care agencies and other professional groups refer children to the program. Children with chronic serious illnesses are considered, particularly those who seem to have special emotional needs, kids who could use some "cheer". All information regarding the program is shared with the parents and all arrangements are made with parental approval. |
