ShawnShawn is a handsome young man with a ready smile. When it was necessary to postpone his ride on the 12th due to bad weather, it was very disappointing for him. Shawn is polite young man and has a natural reserve, but does not make friends easily. His description of the BWAH group and parade ride was "pretty cool" and "awesome". Shawn's friend, Ben, was there and joined him in the parade ride. The impression I got was that they both enjoyed themselves. Shawn's sister, Sarah observed and seemed interested in the event, but did not care about joining in the ride. Shawn, we are so very sorry that we had to disappoint you on the 12th. However, it was a good day and a good time when we finally arrived. In the BeginningIn several ways, the August ride was unique. We certainly missed Vas and Mary, but the folks who took over for them did an excellent job of filling the bill. Barry and Beth took charge of the sale items, and we appreciated their efforts and good humor. Hans was super. He stated that he could not fill Vas's shoes, but, he certainly did cover all the bases, and very well too! Hans, what would we have done without you? We also were without a man on whom we have come to rely. Sgt. Gary Fecteau was not able to be with us this trip. We had another officer from the Sheriff's Dept. who escorted the group to Sanford. Officer Jeff, you left so quickly that I could not catch you to thank you and get your last name. I apologize. We had two people join us for the first time. They heard about BWAH from one of our "regulars". We want to welcome both Walter Hoyt and Bob Rellstab. Please join us for future rides. Approximately 20 bikes left Kennebunk and made the trip to Sanford with Officer Jeff in front with his blue lights flashing. I noticed that many of the folks who pulled over had a curious look on their faces. What do you suppose was in their thoughts? The Central Activity Shawn was there to greet us along with his parents, his sister and his friend. He immediately received and donned his black BWAH shirt. Because we did not have a clown on Sunday we moved right to the presentation and picture taking. Renzo and Pepe, it is never the same without your magic. We missed you. Barry presented the gift bag, and one of our first timers, Walter Hoyt, read the proclamation and presented the certificate to Shawn. They both did a fine job. The Parade Ride around the neighborhood featured Shawn in his BWAH shirt on Dusty's bike. His friend Ben rode next with Steve. Shawn's mother told me that Larry, Shawn's father has a bike and will soon be able to hit the road. Larry, we would love to have you join us on future rides! September Ride Because the second Sunday in September falls on the same day as the annual UBM Toy Ride we will postpone the BWAH ride until the third Sunday, September 16. We will once again meet at Coastal Decorating, Route 1, Kennebunk, at 3:00 and do our best to bring cheer to another BWAH child. Gratitude BWAH thanks the York County Sheriffs Department, the Police Department of Kennebunk, and the neighboring Police Departments of communities we visit on our "Rides For Cheer". They insure the safety of our rides. Thank you all very much. Think of the kids!
